This eastern seaboard province is blessed with an abundance of nature beauty that includes fine beaches, national parks and beautiful, tranquil islands, such as Koh Samet and Koh Man. It has a well deserved reputation for producing seafood products such as shrimp paste, fish sauce and dried seafoods, and tropical fruits of which rambutan, mangosteen and durian are the most famous. After Ayutthaya was sacked by the Burmese, the nobleman Phraya Taksin regrouped with remaining patriots in Rayong to successfully reclaim the capital back and set up a new capital in Thonburi.

By Bus

Rayong is connected by regular bus services with Bangkok and other towns and provinces (Pattaya, Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Nong Khai, Surin and Ubon Ratchathani). Ordinary and air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok to Rayong from the Eastern (Ekamai) Bus Terminal (0-2391-8097) every 30-40 minutes from 04:30 a.m. until 07:20 p.m. daily. And from the Northeastern (Morchit 2) Bus Terminal (0-2936-2852/66 ext. 611), buses leave Bangkok every 1.5 hour from 04:30 a.m. until 09:00 p.m. Buses leave Rayong starting at 04:30 a.m. until 07:30 p.m. The trip takes about 3.30 hours oneway.

Koh Samet can reached by boat from Ban Phe. Boats leaving Ban Phe for Koh Samet through the day from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. One way fare is 30 baht. The trip takes 40 minutes.
